I bet you're just dying to know what that title's about! Haha you will just have to keep reading and see!
Today I was doing another split-day. I did the same kind of thing in November at the same school, actually. I spent the morning in a first grade class, and the afternoon in a fourth grade. The teachers were in the building, but at some meetings, so there were quite a few other subs in the building doing the same thing. One was my friend Hannah, and another I recognized from my Corban days - absolutely could NOT remember her name though!
The first graders were a small group - only 19 there today. I knew one of the kids from last year - he has a sort of uncommon name, and when the teacher mentioned him I wondered if it was the same kid. She told me where he used to go to school, and sure enough, it was him! He was somewhat of a handful last year, but he did really well for me this morning, so that was good. I think I started off on a good note with him, because I went over and talked to him first thing in the morning and told him how I remembered subbing in his kindergarten class and how he was the only kid in this class that I already knew! He seemed pleased by that little revelation.
Basically all I did with this class was their reading groups. We had 2 rotations before recess, 2 after recess and then they had lunch, which was went I switched classes. But the funniest part of the day was when the kids were cleaning up and lining up for lunch. I overhead a girl asking her friend if she was "a hottie". To which the friend replied, "No, I'm a coldie". Apparently that's their was of saying if they are having hot or cold lunch. And they completely do not get the more common usage of the word "hottie". It was just too funny.
The forth graders were a busy group. The teacher had me facilitating a lot of group activities, which meant I was trying to quiet the group down most of the afternoon. At one point I was writing some stuff on the board while they were working on their writing, and when I finished I realized it was on this insane downward slant. So I erased a bunch of it and started again, trying to keep it mostly straight. Second time was much better. I stepped back and studied it. Then I erased a couple other bits that were crooked and went to work fixing those. Meanwhile, I did not notice that one of the girls in the front row was watching this entire process. After I erased part for a third time, she sweetly said, "It doesn't have to be perfect." Ahh...now you know you've crossed the line when a forth-grader feels the need to point out that you're being WAY to obsessive-compulsive! I stopped fussing with it.
Well, tonight's stories are kind of random, but it's hard to tie things together from 2 different classes. And I'm tired, so this may or may not be coherent. Congrats for making it this far! Happy Weekend! (No school here on Friday - teacher inservice day).

I love the "hottie" story. In all my years of hearing kids talk about hot or cold lunch I never heard them label themselves that way. Too funny! I also enjoyed the OC tendency being noted by a student. Good that you let it go. :-) Have a great weekend.
Love you!!! MOM
HAHAHA you know its pretty bad when a little kid notices your obsessiveness lol :) Sounds like you had a fun day. The "hottie" and "coldie" thing cracked me up! So... maybe I'll see you today! I'll have to txt ya... :)
I was usually a coldie myself, especially this last weekend! Cracks me up that you were caught red-handed in your OCD. I'll have to tell Timothy, he'll be proud of you; we have a page in our quote book just for his humorous OCD moments. Rhonda
