Recorders Are Not Sub-Friendly

Today I ventured back into the world of subbing for music!

It was part irritating, part fun:

Irritating: fifth graders with attitudes, fourth graders with attitudes, fifth, forth and third graders who won't stop playing their recorders when I tell them to, and a first grader who doesn't listen to me and sometimes howls like a wolf when I'm talking.

Fun: having kids I haven't seen for a few years remember me with a smile, having two of my neighbor girls in class and having them be so excited to tell their class that they know me, having a problem child from last year happy to see me and eager also to tell his class that we are "pals", teaching the third graders to notice a rest in their recorder music and to separate the notes they are playing, and listening to the 1st and 2nd graders sing songs about animals all afternoon.

Boy, your post really took me back to my life for 30 years. Although I can't actually recall a howling 1st grader but I'm sure there were some. :) I am impressed that you would even attempt the recorders. That was a challenge when I was the regular teacher who knew all their names. It can give you a major headache!! Congratulations on surviving. Love you!!! MOM
